Our Story

The visionary of HD Cuisine is from the center of it all; the exotic island of Penang. Lin grew up in Georgetown, Penang in the 1960s. To her, the hawker food scene was just the norm. The liveliness, comfort and sense of community surrounding the hawker markets brought so much comfort to her and her family of 9. The food was fresh, delicious and cheap. When Lin moved to Chicago, she had to get acquainted with an entirely different food atmosphere. While the US showed so much diversity in fare, she found herself missing the warmth and authenticity of hawker food. Malay restaurants are very rare in Chicagoland. In her opinion, Malay food was a necessity. That is why for the past 15 years, it has been her dream to open a place where Malaysian delights could be enjoyed by Chicagoland. Now she is teaming up with her brother, Tony, an award winning Chef, so that dream can finally be a reality.
